Skate in the City Wrap-up

Canberra’s first open-air ice skating rink exceeded all expectations and proved to be a huge hit with families and people of all ages. The event attracted almost 20,000 patrons, including locals and visitors who travelled from as far away as Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia.
It was a great boost for business and tourism in the often difficult winter trading period. Some feedback we received throughout the event includes:
“You have done a great job with the Ice Skating in Garema, it has brought the place to life!! I hope you bring back the ice next year! Brilliant idea, keep up the good work!!”
Laurence Kain
“Just wanted to say that the Skate in the City event looks great. At last – a great reason to get out into the city in the thick of winter. We need more such events. My kids are very excited about the idea – so am I.”
Angela Sharpe
Recycling Bins for the City

The Economic Development Directorate (formerly the Department of Land & Property Services) has just implemented the first trial of public recycling bins for Canberra City.
The prototype bins are being trialled in Garema Place near Ali Baba. We would encourage all business to make the bins known to their staff and customers.
